The University of Calabar Governing Council has declared Professor (Mrs.) Florence, Banku Obi the first female and 11th substantive Vice Chancellor of the institution, Brainnews report.
Professor (Mrs.) Florence Banku Obi replaces incumbent Vice-Chancellor, Prof Zana Akpagu as the new University of Calabar (UNICAL) Vice-Chancellor.
Professor Florence Obi, (Education) is a former Commissioner for women Affairs, as well as former Deputy VC Academics.
More than ten Professors jostled for this position. Some of them include; Joseph Asor (Biological Science); Prof Offiong Offiong (Chemistry); Prof. Ndiyo Ayara (Economics); Prof Francis Bisong (Geography).
Others are; Prof. Patrick Asuquo (Education Administration); Eyong Ubana (English); Prof Benedict Ita (Chemistry) and Prof Anne Asuquo (Medical Microbiology).
