1. ASUU asks for patience over lingering strike
THE Academic Staff Union of Universities has pleaded with Nigerians to be patient with it, stressing that the ongoing strike was meant to help entrench quality education in the education system.
A press statement made available to The PUNCH and signed by National President, ASUU, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi, indicated that ASUU was at the final stage of the integrity test of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution with the National Information Technology Development Agency.
Ogunyemi also revealed that UTAS was developed locally by ASUU members unlike IPPIS, which was engineered by the World Bank.
2. Strike: Recall students for academic activities, ASUU faction begs VCs
Lecturers under the aegis of the Congress of Universities Academic has urged Vice-Chancellors of public universities to recall students for academic activities.
CONUA, which is a breakaway faction of ASUU, said its members across the nation are not on strike and are ready to lecture.
The National Secretary of CONUA, Dr Henri Oripeloye, made this known in a press statement made available to our correspondent.
Oripeloye assured that “should VCs recall their students now, academic activities will resume without any rancour in public varsities as many lecturers are ready to resume since they have complied with government’s directive on IPPIS”.
The statement was titled, “ASUU: Breakaway faction begs VCs to recall students for academic activities”.
3. Strike: UTAS can be ready in three weeks, says ASUU
THE Academic Staff Union of Universities has said the University Transparency Accountability Solution can be ready in three weeks if the Federal Government is committed.
Last week, the FG had told ASUU to transit to Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System pending when UTAS would be ready for use.
However, in an interview with The PUNCH, ASUU President, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi, said there was no need to transit to IPPIS since UTAS could be ready in at most three weeks if government was sincere.
