ASUU Breaking News This Night, November 11
Brainnews is back this night with the latest from the ASUU Strike across Nigeria.
Below is the latest you need to read:
1. Reinstatement of UNILAG VC will enthrone stability, says ASUU
The Chairman Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), UNILAG chapter, Dr. Dele Ashiru has said the reinstatement of the suspended Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe would ensure peace, progress, and stability in the institution.
President Muhammadu Buhari approved the reinstatement of the VC on Wednesday noting that his removal by the now-dissolved Wale Balabakin -led Governing Council did not follow due process.
In a chat with The Nation, Ashiru described the decision of the Federal Government as a vindication of the union’s position on the ‘authoritarian and dictatorial tendencies of the Babalakin-led Council.’
2. ASUU to members: boycott UI convocation
THE Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Ibadan (UI) chapter, on Tuesday asked its members to boycott the 2020 Convocation and Foundation Day ceremonies of the university.
The decision may not be unconnected with the ongoing strike embarked on by the union.
ASUU in a statement by the Chairman, Prof. Ayo Akinwole, said the position of the union is that holding convocation is a violation of the principle of the ongoing strike.
He said the union is constrained to “advise members not to be in attendance or participate in the preparation for and the actualisation of the Convocation and 72nd Foundation Day ceremonies.”
