ASUU Seeks Time to Conclude Consultations over Strike

Amidst concerns over the long closure of public universities, the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has requested that it be given till Wednesday to conclude consultations with its chapters on the terms of resolution of the dispute with the federal government.

Similarly, the federal government team is expected to continue discussions with the organised labour unions on ways of resolving the dispute over the recent increases in the pump price of petrol and electricity tariff.

ASUU was expected to revert to the federal government latest last Friday on whether or not it has accepted the proposals to end the nine-month-old industrial action by its members. CONTINUE READING HERE..

2. No resumption until FG pays withheld salaries – ASUU

ASUU to review strike as FG raises allowances offer to N70b

The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Sunday said it would not end the strike it embarked on until government paid all the salaries of its members it withheld.

The President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, in a telephone interview with our correspondent in Lagos, said government should not expect the lecturers to resume without paying the withheld salaries.

Recall that there were reports on November 27 that the union had agreed to end its strike following the Federal Government’s promise to release N70bn to ASUU as earned allowance. CONTINUE READING HERE..

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has explained why lecturers are yet to call off their eight-month-old strike.

Its leadership said the Federal Government has neither implemented nor fulfilled any of the offers it made to ASUU.
