Attack on Abia State Police Division: How it Happened

It has been reported that some hoodlums attacked Uzuakoli Divisional Police Station in Bende Local Government Area of Abia at around 3 a.m on Monday.

According to the report from Premium Times, no life was lost during the attack, that the operatives at the time repelled the attackers, stopping them from gaining access to the armoury.

The Police is said to have blamed the Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB group, for the attack, and its security faction, ESN, but the groups denied any involvement on the attack.

The incidence was confirmed by Abia State police spokesman, Godfrey Ogbonna, while speaking to News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Umuahia.

He said, Dynamites and rocket launcher were used to carry out the attack, burning down the building and other private properties in the premises, like vehicles, etc.

While speaking, Mr Ogbonna recalled recent attacks on police stations done in the South East and South South side of the country, saying “similar attacks have been recorded in Imo, Akwa Ibom, Anambra and Cross River leading to the deaths of police personnel and destruction of properties worth millions of naira”, and one case, 1,800 inmates were freed.

He also stated that investigations into the attack have commenced.
