President Buhari Vows To Help Chad In Their Transition From Military to Civilian Government

Brainnewspaper reports that the Transition and military leader of Chad Republic, Mahamat Deby, visited the President of Nigeria, Alhaji Muhammadu Buhari in the State house, Abuja.

The son of former military ruler who took over the rulership of Chad, after his father, Idriss Deby, died April 19, in battle, was welcomed by Buhari in Abuja, and was promised support in the transition process of Chad Republic from military rule to a civilian government.

Buhari’s spokesman, Femi Adesina disclosed on Friday in Abuja that the President vowed to aid Chad into a smooth transition which is expected in 18 months..

The president of the federal republic of Nigeria recalled the friendship he had with Late Idriss Deby and Chad as a whole, and the support the country gave Nigeria in fighting against terrorism.

In the statement, Buhari was quoted as saying, “We are bound together by culture and geography, and we will help in all ways we can.

“Nigerians know and appreciate the role Chad played in helping us to combat terrorism, we will continue the collaboration”

“We will also help you to ensure a smooth transition in 18 months, as you have promised your people,’’ Buhari said.

Mahatma Deby in a response thanked the president for offering to support Chad in the transition process, saying as The Guardian quotes that the main objective of the Transitional Military Council “are security and cohesion of our country.”

Mahatma Deby also recalled Buhari’s relationship with his father and accepts to be guided by Buhari in the  transition.
