Just In: Army Intercepts 5 Trucks Loaded With 46 Motorcycles And 73 Passengers In Benue


Soldiers from 72 special forces Brigade, Nigeria in Markurdi have arrested 73 suspects on Monday night at Toll Gate, Makurdi, Benue State.

The soldiers reported that the suspects had 47 Bajaj motorcycles on board the five trucks. On the trucks were found natural minerals which include Zinc, Lead etc which was claimed to be supplied to a company in Port Harcourt in Rivers State.

According to news that was gathered by Brainnewspaper, the 73 arrested suspects were heading to imo state, despite the insecurity challenges. The Commander of 72 Special Forces Brigade, Lt. Col. AD Alhassan said that the operation was carried after they were notified in a distress call by the residents of Makurdi.

A thorough search was conducted throughout the 5 trucks but no arms were found. When the owner of the company was contacted by the Military, he stated that the minerals were actually heading to his company. Investigations conducted revealed that the truck owner wasn’t aware of the illegal conveying of motorcycles the driver and his escort have used his vehicle to engage in.

Speaking during investigation, Emmanuel Ayugwa said they were going to Imo State to start okada business. Though they were aware of the inseurity challenges going on in the state, they decided to go because their brothers over there told them that everything had settled down.

Benue State Deputy Governor Benson Abounu, applauded the soldiers for their dedication to work for the state. He futher requested that investigations should be carried out to the core to make sure they aren’t doing anything illegal.
