The Director General of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) Shuaibu Ibrahim in an interview has said that, the NYSC Members are part of Nigeria’s National Defence Policy, can be called upon and mobilized for war when needed.
This opportunity to be interviewed by Newsmen on Wednesday, 3 June 2021 was as a result of the ongoing National bill to bring to an end the NYSC program that was set up by the administration of President Yakubu Gowon on the 22 of May 1973 to help foster unity and curb tribal conflict.
Shuaibu Ibrahim maintained his stand to protect the interest of the NYSC scheme, saying that the NYSC is a part of the national defense policy of Nigeria.
In his statement he said, “corp members are in reserve, they’re part of the national defense policy of the country.
“So when there’s war, our corp members are well trained, they’re educated, they’re knowledgeable and they know what to do. You see the drill and so on.
He went further to explain that the NYSC program sets it’s beneficiaries on a part of boldness to fit into anywhere they see themselves in, any condition at all, they will be able to conquer and scale through. He commended the consistency and hardwork of the female corp members who within a period of three weeks are already fit to be called soldiers due to solid formation that they received. “If not for the knowledge, where are you going to mobilize young Nigerians and train them quickly to show in their best interest in defense of the country”? – He asked
