The 33-year-old has had a long and successful career in the Women’s National League with Galway, Salthill Devon FC and Wexford Youths, but the qualified solicitor has hung up her boots to embrace a new challenge.

Galway said Fahy will be in charge of implementing a strategic vision for the club.

The westerners currently field sides in the WNL, as well as the Under-17 and Under-19 national leagues.

“Galway WFC has always been a side that has had enormous potential and now the time is right to capitalise on that,” said Fahy.

“Women’s football continues to evolve at a rapid rate. As standards rise on the pitch so to do the demands of it. In order of our players and coaching staff to compete at the top level, they need the right support structures in place.

“I have no qualms about the challenges that we will face as we work towards a new club vision, but I’m not afraid to do things differently where needs be.

“I’m incredibly grateful to the board for this opportunity and excited ot get started.”

Galway currently lie fifth in the WNL table.
