Sarr not pushing for Liverpool move – reports

Watford’s Ismaila Sarr is not pushing for a move to Liverpool before the close of the current transfer window, according to the Watford Observer.

Sarr scored 13 goals and provided four assists in 39 Championship appearances last season to help Watford earn promotion back to the Premier League just a year after they were relegated from the top flight in 2020.

And he was impressive in Watford’s opening-weekend 3-2 win over Aston Villa, registering a goal and an assist.

The Senegalese attacker has been regularly linked with Manchester United and Liverpool, while a report this midweek claimed that he had asked permission to leave Watford this summer and that the Reds were preparing a £40m bid for the winger.

However, the Watford Observer reports that the club have “received no approach” for Sarr and adds that “there is no desire from the player to push for a move at this stage in his career, having only just returned to the Premier League with the Hornets.”

Speaking about interest in Sarr last summer, Watford technical director Filippo Girardi revealed just how close he came to leaving.

“We were extremely close, I was personally negotiating with them [Manchester United],” Girardi told Fabrizio Romano on the Here We Go podcast.
