At least four persons have been killed and scores injured when gunmen invaded Bagana community in the Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State.

It was gathered that the gunmen invaded a shop located at the heart of the community on Tuesday night, August 31, killing the sales representative and three customers who came to buy some items including diesel oil dealer and a dispensary staff of the Local Government Health Center at Ogba.

Confirming the incident, spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP William Aya, said one Usman Salifu called the DPO on phone around 9.30pm on Tuesday that his shop had been attacked by gunmen leading to the death of his sales boy, Bashir Sule and three other customers, while scores sustained various degrees of injury.

The PPRO added that on receipt of the distress call, the DPO mobilised his men to the scene and evacuated some of the injured to the hospital for treatment, adding that the force had commenced manhunt to bring the perpetrators to book.

Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Idrisu Dabban told Channels Television on Wednesday that the assailants came to attack one person simply identified as Musa.

“The figure known to us is that four people were killed. The 13-year-old salesman and three other customers. We were told that they came to attack one Musa who was not available and they went ahead to attack innocent people,” Dabban said.

He explained that no suspects have been arrested and that investigation has been launched into the incident.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Omala Local Government Council, Hon. Ibrahim Yakubu Aboh has expressed grief over the killings.

Speaking when he visited the crime scene on Wednesday, September 1, Aboh descibed the act as unfortunate and painful.

“We are saddened as a government and as a people. We condemn this act in it’s entirety. No stand to justify a man taking another man’s life. We commiserate with families of those who lost their lives in this incident. May their souls rest in peace.”
