As reported by The Nation, motorists entering and exiting Niger State from the western and eastern parts of Nigeria have been stranded for over three days after trailer drivers blocked all the entry routes into the state capital.

The protest began in Bida on Friday when the protesters blocked the entry roads with their vehicles.

It continued on Saturday when the protesters blocked the road at Lambata.

The roadblock worsened on Sunday as the drivers blocked farmlands and communities, ensuring that there is no way any vehicle can enter or leave Niger State.

They are demanding the reopening of the Bida-Minna road by Niger Government, vowing they would not suspend the ongoing protest until the road is reopened.

But the State Government vowed it won’t reopen the newly repaired road to heavy duty vehicles to prevent damage.

The road blockages have caused a lot of agony and pain to motorists who have been walking for hours to get to their destinations.

“I continued this morning and when I got to Lambatta, there was another blockage and I had to take another motorcycle to the other part of the blockage before seeing a vehicle going to Suleja. It has not been an easy journey,” she said.
