Ayo ‘Wizkid’ Balogun has opened up on how he recorded his hit song, Essence, saying he had no vision for it.

Wizkid noted that he didn’t envisage how big the song will eventually become after recording with Tems in a recent interview with RollingStone.

“There was no vision. … I remember that day. I had, like, six producers in the room. I was recording the last song on the album, and, yeah, Tems came in the room; we made that together. It was just easy, man,” he said.

Speaking on his ‘Made In Lagos,’ album, which is still making an impact one year after release, Wizkid said he made the album at such a great time in his life.

“The most important thing, and the first thing that I focused on, was just making good music. If you make a good product, people are going to love it. I made the album at such a great time in my life. I’m a father. I have three kids that I love so much. My first son is 10, my second son is five, and my last boy is about to be four. Everything was just different for me; how I see life and how I move in general is just different. It was very important for me to make quality music and something that feeds my soul. That’s all I focused on.”
