CAF Women’s Champions League is set to begin on Friday.
The 30 June Stadium in Cairo, Egypt will be the place when the first ever TotalEnergies CAF Women Champions League kicks off on Friday, 5 November 2021 as hosts Wadi Degla takes on Mali’s AS Mande in the opening game.
Since the Women division of the multi-branched Cairo based club was formed in 2007, they won the Egyptian Women League title for a record 12 times, and their last season (2020-21) one was the 11th in a row.
Wadi Degla automatically qualified as the champions of the host country. They will try to make use of playing at home and achieve something big in their first continental adventure.
Meanwhile, AS Mande won the first two editions of Mali women’s First Division league (2017, 2021) and the National Cup four times (2012, 2014, 2015, 2016).
The Mandekas -as Mande is nicknamed- won the WAFU-A qualifiers to reach the maiden CAF Women Champions League.
“It’s a new adventure. This is the very first, I have participated in several competitions in which I have won a lot of titles and satisfactions. But this competition means a lot to me, and I have a lot of hope in it, especially as a vice-captain. It’s a big challenge,” striker Fatoumata Diarra said.
