JUST IN: No Date Yet For APC National Convention

It has been revealed that there is no date yet for APC National Convention.

Through its Caretaker/Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday began preparation for its National Convention with a resolve to raise sub-committees on budgeting and other structures, The Nation report.

The CECPC was, however, silent on the date for the Convention billed for February next year.

At its 18th regular meeting, the last of such in the year, the 13-man committee resolved to set up the sub-committees to kick-start preparations for the convention.

CECPC Secretary Senator John Akpanudoedehe told reporters after the meeting that the committee “deliberated on the planned National Convention and resolved to set up sub-committees on budgeting and other relevant structures for the National Convention.”

He said the committee passed a vote of confidence on President Muhammadu Buhari’s pro-people programmes and projects that have positively impacted many Nigerians.

Disclosing the resolution of the meeting, Akpanudoedehe said: “The APC CECPC at its 18th regular meeting on Monday, 20th December, 2021, at the party’s National Secretariat (Buhari House), reviewed its activities over the past one year. The CECPC also deliberated on various national and party matters and resolved as follows:

Congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on the implementation of several pro-people policies that have positively impacted the lives of many Nigerians and subsequently passed a vote of confidence in the administration.
The party will engage critical stakeholders on issues that affect Nigerians.
Deliberated on the planned National Convention and resolved to set up sub-committees on budgeting and other relevant structures for the convention.
Thanked Nigerians for their continued support for the Party and Government. The CECPC wished citizens seasons’ greetings and peaceful celebrations.”

He declined to entertain furthers questions from reporters.

Earlier in the day, a group of banner-carrying protesters, under the aegis of concerned APC members stormed the party Secretariat ahead of the CECPC meeting, demanding that the February date for the national convention must be actualised.

The banner reads: “Buni give us national convention in February”; “Don’t kill our beloved APC”; “Caretaker Committee, your time is up”; “Leave when the ovation is loudest…”; and “Time is running out…”.

The peaceful protest lasted for about five minutes.
