By Harrison Essien,
If someone had told Madam Comfort Elijah of Ikot Akpan Anwa in Ika Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, that she will own a two bedroom bungalow in less than six months, she would have cursed such a person for mocking her as a widow with no financial capacity.
But today, Madam Elijah is not just a proud owner of a two bedroom flat, she also hosted the wife of the State Governor, Dr. Martha Emmanuel in her new home, a development she said, she never dreamt of.
The shelter is courtesy of the Governor’s Wife through her Family Empowerment and Youth Reorientation Path-initiative’s Shelter of Hope Scheme.
At the inauguration of the apartment today in Ikot Akpan Anwa, Madam Elijah poured blessing on the First Lady to putting a smile on her face.
The Governor’s wife said the bungalow was one of the 60 houses she has built to poorest of the poor and vulnerable families across the 31 Local Government Areas of the State.
She advised Madam Elijah not to lose hope as God has not forgotten her, urging her to hold unto God even as she prayed for longevity to enjoy her new home.
Apart from Madam Elijah, 50 other widows in the community also smiled home with cash and wrappers to start up businesses.
Madam Elijah, who was flanked by her son, recounted her ordeal after losing her husband many years ago and thanked the Governor’s Wife for rescuing her from poverty.
Another widow, Madam Alice Dan from Utu Etim Ekpo, Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of the State, also benefited from the First Lady’s compassionate disposition after been sighted in a deplorable house by the Governor’s wife during her visit to the area few months ago.
