5 Die In Rivers State, Delta Road Accidents

Five persons has died in Rivers State and Delta State road accidents, The Nation report.

Five persons were feared dead yesterday in two road crashes in Rivers and Delta states.

Three persons died in the Rivers incident, which happened at Iriebe on Port Harcourt-Aba Expressway.

Some claimed that the casualty figure was six and even more but the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that three persons died while others were injured and rushed to hospital.

The accident involved a Hiace bus and a stationary truck loaded with timber.

Two persons died in the Delta crash, which happened at Ogwashi-Ukwu on the Ughelli-Asaba Highway.

The Sector Commander of the FRSC, Ibrahim Abubakar, confirmed the accident, saying it involved four vehicles, comprising a Toyota Sienna, a tanker and two trucks.

Abubakar attributed the crash to brake failure of one of the trucks.

“It emanated from a possible collision involving a Sienna bus, a tanker allegedly conveying liquefied gas and another truck carrying medical supplies.

“The driver of the Sienna bus and the front passenger reportedly died on the spot; an axe was used to dismantle the affected parts of the bus, to bring out the victims,” he said.
