A pioneer member of the ruling APC, the 62 years old Nko-born politician, was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari as the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs between November 2015 and May 2019.

Pastor Usani who never hid his desire to contest the 2023 governorship election in Cross River State is expected to emerge as the gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Redemption Party.

Last month, in an interview with our reporter, the former Minister insisted that he will be contesting the governorship election under the APC, “I have tried to see the Governor, but maybe because of his busy schedule, he is yet to give me a date. I feel like the leader of our party in the State, I should give him the respect that he deserves. But if I wait for a while and I still can’t see him, then I will have to send him an electronic message by way of informing him,” he said.

He had over the weekend detached himself from the State APC consensus candidate which produced Sen. Bassey Otu as the party’s governorship flag bearer.
