Lagos, Ogun PDP Governorship Aspirants Face Disqualification

Lagos and Ogun PDP governorship aspirants may face disqualification, The Nation report.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirants screening committee for Southwest may announce disqualification of two of the 11 aspirants today.

The Nation gathered from sources close to the committee that an aspirant in Lagos State and another from Ogun State (names withheld) were unable to produce some documents to certify that they met requirements for the contest.

For the Lagos aspirant, the committee was said to have issues with his tax clearance. He was asked to produce an acceptable one before the close of work on Friday. It was learnt that the aspirant could not produce an acceptable tax clearance as at Friday evening.

As for the Ogun State aspirant, The Nation gathered that there were discrepancies in some of his documents, which he was directed to regularise before close of work on Friday. He could not produce corrected documents as at Friday evening.

A source said: “The committee has done its work. They met the aspirants for two days, painstakingly reviewed their credentials to determine their qualification for the contest and prevent a situation where INEC disqualifies them. Two of them failed to satisfy the committee. They were given till Friday to correct anomalies in their qualifications, but they didn’t show up or send corrected documents that were rejected. The committee is expected to submit its report possibly on Monday or after the holiday. Obviously, the two aspirants will not be cleared.”

The aspirants screened at the Southwest zonal office of the party in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, by the committee headed by Sen. Ahmed Makarfi.

Governorship aspirants from Ogun State were Segun Sowunmi, Ladi Adebutu and Jimi Lawal.

Governor Seyi Makinde and Hazeem Gbolarumi faced the committee from Oyo State.

Invited for the screening from Lagos were Shamsideen Dosumu, AbdulAzeez Adediran, David Kolawole, Jimi Karmal, Adedeji Doherty and Rhodes Gbadebo.
