Why Ibadan Building Collapsed - SON

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria, SON has revealed why Ibadan building collapsed.

The Nation reports that the Standards Organisation of Nigeria, (SON) has said incompetency and substandard materials applied to minimise cost of production caused the building collapse that occurred on Thursday at Awosika, Bodija, Ibadan.

SON Oyo coordinator, Adetoye Adeyinka, while reacting after he and his team examined the cause, called on builders to always patronise quality materials with the approval of MANCAP.

He urged contractors to always reach out to relevant and certified agencies for sensitisation and advice on how to go about construction of standard storey building.

The five storey building, which was said to be an hotel, caved in at Awosika area, Ibadan North Local Government Area.

Source said seven injured persons have so far been rescued from the rubble of the building, but it could not be ascertained if any life was lost in the incident yet.

The affected building was adjacent a new generation bank at Awosika area, Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Sources said the incident occured around 5:45AM when Muslim faithful were going for prayers.
