DSS Holds Workshop For Directors, Others On Polls

The Department of State Services, DSS has hold a workshop for directors, among others on polls, The Nation can confirm.

Ahead of the elections, Department of State Services (DSS) has held a four-day strategic workshop for state directors of security and heads of institutions.

In a statement yesterday in Abuja by its spokesman, Dr. Peter Afunanya, DSS said the workshop was held at its national headquarters in Abuja.

It said Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, presented a keynote address on preparation for the polls.

The statement said Yakubu assured DSS of INEC’s determination to deliver free, fair and credible elections.

It reads: “… the commission, through its Director of Legal, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, educated participants on the Electoral Act 2022 and its implications for security agencies.

‘’The service reviewed the security situation and assured INEC of its support in line with the President’s promise to bequeath a free and fair poll.

“As part of related training and courses oulined for personnel, a capacity building seminar in Public Relations was opened by DGSS on January 23, for mid-level officers from state commands. Resource persons from the media, public relations practice and the academia are participating.

“The DGSS, Alhaji Magaji Bichi, used the occasion to reiterate the need for professionalism and neutrality in the discharge of the service’s mandate before, during and after the election. Of note was that at the end of the workshop, participants pledged to work with sister agencies, INEC, and stakeholders to ensure peaceful elections are conducted in the country.

“DSS, on January 16, commenced a two-week joint service training at National Institute for Security Studies (NISS) in Abuja. Participants are drawn from Armed Forces, police, law enforcement and response agencies.

“The course was initiated to strengthen inter-agency relations in view of their roles in the elections as well as promote such collaboration and efficiency in the elections.”
