In 2020 alone, more than 100 persons have been kidnapped by suspected gunmen in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

On Tuesday, September 1, the first son of Pastor Sylvanus Tommy, the founder of EndTime Christian Ministry was abducted by suspected kidnappers at Goldie Street by the cemetery near his compound.

The incident which occurred at about 8:20 Pm on Tuesday saw the victim having a discussion with his friend at the entrance to his compound when the suspected abductors trailed him, his friend foil his abduction when he tore his shirt and speed off, luckily he was not shot or trail. The kidnappers who were armed with AK-47 rifles were more than five with a another person in a waiting vehicle.

According to an eye-witness who pleaded anonymity told Brainnews; “The incident has prompted the pastor to arrest two suspected persons link to the abduction of his son, although police are still on investigation. The two arrested persons are Goldie residents, but I’m not sure if they are innocent. The pastor is really worried because the abducted son will replace him in the church.”

Kidnapping has been in the rise in Cross River State lately especially in Calabar. Weeks ago a doctor working with UCTH was abducted by suspected kidnappers.

In Goldie alone, Pastor Tommy’s first son happens to be the fourth victim of kidnapping. Years ago, a mechanic working closed to the NNPC now Fynefield filling station was abducted, followed by a PDP State chieftain in the same vicinity was also abducted and the last incident was the abduction of a chemist of whom was brave enough to escaped from his abductor’s captivity.

Information reaching Brainnews have it that the abductors have now spoken to the family and have requested 30 million Naira for their victim’s release.

The incident have been reported to the Cross River State police command and investigation is ongoing.
